DSLPOA Mile Swim – Reminder

Join the Mile Swim this Saturday to honour the legacy or challenge yourself to swim a mile.  Swimmers as young as 7 and as wise as 75 have participated.  Everyone is welcome to come out and cheer on the swimmers.

The swim was started by Jim Fink (an avid swimmer himself) in the early 80s as a memorial to Ced Hurd, a cottager and avid swimmer who taught many children on the lake to swim and feel safe in the water.  The mile distance was chosen with safety and water confidence in mind.  The theory being if you were stranded in a boat/water anywhere on the lake and could swim 1 mile comfortably you could make it to back to a shoreline safely.

We continue to hold the swim to honour both Ced Hurd and Jim Fink to encourage swimming skills and water safety.
