EWM Dive Week 2025 Has Arrived

After a one week delay due to necessary dive boat repairs, we are ready for our three full days of diver assisted EWM control activities. Burlap mats and river rock will be in place near the first site to be visited on Tuesday morning. Dominique Binckly has lined up volunteers for fragment patrol, Bob Heyes and Jim Miners will meet the divers at Sandy Cove and the activity begins. With the help of the favourable weather conditions, the three day lineup will look like this:

  • Dive day #1 (Tuesday, August 5)  We will tackle Site 18 (Pine Tree Point) and Site 1 (Harris Beach) with matting at both sites and some limited hand harvesting at Site 18.
  • Tuesday 4:30 pm - second barge loading party at 4:30pm at Heyes' beach.
  • Dive day #2 (Wednesday August 6)  Finish off any mats at Site 1 then to Bonham's Bay to mat Site 4. If there is time left, we will start hand harvesting at the 5 sites we have identified as the most needy.
  • Dive Day #3 (Thursday August 7) Continue hand harvesting activities to completion.

If you are boating during this time please do not approach the dive area - this is important for the safety of all involved in the work. If you are at your property this week, be on the lookout for fragments on your waterfront and remove them for disposal. If you are interested in our daily progress, Jim will provide an update on Facebook each day.

It is important to thank all who have contributed to the EWM Fund, all who volunteer to help, the 9 members of the Working Group and the DSLPOA Executive. Without all of this support, the EWM Identification, Monitoring and Control Program could not continue.
