LEARN ABOUT OUR LAKES

MNRF has an ongoing monitoring program looking at the fish populations for a set of representative Ontario lakes. Drag/Spruce are part of this program.

To read about the overall program – click here

To see the data for individual lakes – click here (enter Drag Lake in the Waterbody Name to get to our lake)

By then clicking on Broadscale Bulletin, you can see our fish data for two different cycles –

As an example, here is an excerpt from the 2023 sampling:

Enjoy better understanding the dynamics and health of our lakes.

(And based on the significant uptick over the years in our (invasive) rock bass population, it just might be time to reinstitute the famous Drag/Spruce Lakes Rock Bass Fish Derby for the kids again next year!)

PUBLIC NOTICE – WIRELESS TELECOM TOWER

16 October 2023 | 1 Comment

Please see the details behind the public notice that was published in the Haliburton County Echo last week.  The notice is for a proposed wireless telecommunications tower near intersection of Indian Point Rd and Dardanelles Rd (mistakenly identified as Sandy Cove Rd).

Project Description – click here

Site Survey – click here

View Photos – click here

The tower is part of the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s (EORN) Cell Gap Project.  The project is a $300 million public-private partnership between the federal and provincial governments and Rogers to provide:

  • 99% of the southeastern Ontario area from Ottawa to Haliburton with cellular voice calling services;
  • at least 95% of the area with standard-definition level services such as video-app calls, basic app usage and streaming of standard definition video; and
  • at least 85% of the area with service levels that can support streaming high-definition video and more data-intensive apps.

The DSLPOA appreciates that cell tower installations can be controversial.  As part of the public consultation process, you are invited to comment in writing about the proposed Rogers site before 5pm on November 10th, 2023.  All registered property owners and businesses within 341.5m of the proposed tower will receive a notification package.

We will continue to share information on this process as it becomes available and encourage property owners to provide their input directly to the consultation mechanisms as they are identified.
