One of the conditions of accepting a grant from the Haliburton County Development Corporation is that we provide regular progress reports regarding our project, the Identification and Control of Eurasian Watermilfoil in Drag and Spruce Lakes. Our first such report can be viewed under EWM Information (left hand column on website), or click here.
One of the items in this report is the launch of the month-long Mike Podmore Memorial Weed Hunt, which is open to the family of any property owner that has paid their DSLPOA membership in either 2020 or 2021. The rules of the event are quite simple:
- Register your weed hunters with the Working Group at DSLPOAEWM@gmail.com.
- Paddle or wade close to any weed-bed in your lake.https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Fire-danger–Be–WakeAware–Development-Fines–and-more.html?soid=1103081187936&aid=a0i6CSFnkdk
- Take a close picture of the weeds and those joining you in the hunt.
- Make a note of the weed.bed location, either with GPS coordinates or a nearby property address.
- Send your report to DSLPOAEWM@gmail.com.
Every participating family will receive a prize and an entry into a draw. Although the event was originally scheduled to end on July 31, the rainy beginning to July may have kept some of you off the water. For that reason we will be extending the event until August 7. Happy weed hunting.
Another item in the report is about an offer by Glen Bowker and his band to play requests at your dock on July 31. In return, Glen is asking that anyone who books a request also makes a minimum $100 contribution to the EWM Fund. Glen has posted a story on Facebook at this location. If that doesn’t work for you, send me an email and I will forward it to Glen. Thanks to Glen for his offer and to all of you for your contributions.
A final note about our fundraising campaign – we have received a number of generous donations in the past week. These donations, and those yet to come, will allow us to complete our planned EWM control activities for 2021. Your continuing support is needed to ensure that we can continue these activities in 2022 and beyond.
