Drag and Spruce Lakes EWM Fund

1 June 2025 | 0 Comments

We Need Your Help So We Can Continue To Help You

Who are you?

  • A possible recipient of a free 8x10 drone photo of your waterfront (details below)
  • One of roughly 550 property owners with Drag or Spruce Lake frontage
  • A permanent or seasonal resident with a significant property investment and reasonable expectation that its value will continue to rise
  • Someone who realizes that the thousands of dollars spent each year on municipal taxes, utility bills, improvements and maintenance are needed to protect your investment
  • Someone who may have made one or more donations to the EWM Fund in the last five years - thank you for realizing that the two or three hundred dollars you contribute each year also protects your family’s investment
  • Someone who appreciates the importance of maintaining a healthy lake and promoting biodiversity in and around the lake
  • Someone whose family enjoys the range of available water-based recreational activities but also knows that invasive aquatic species like EWM can interfere with this enjoyment

Who are we?

  • Every volunteer who helps between Victoria Day and Thanksgiving Day to identify and control the spread of Eurasian Watermilfoil within our lakes
  • The nine volunteer members of the EWM Working Group who work year round to manage the program of activities needed to inform and educate property owners, identify new EWM outbreaks, monitor growth at each outbreak and selectively apply measures to control the growth and spread of EWM
  • The Drag and Spruce Lakes Property Owners’ Association that assists by getting necessary MNR approvals, contracting for specialized services (eg. commercial diving), providing insurance coverage for supervised EWM volunteer activities and receiving and dispersing EWM Fund donations

How can you help?

  • Make a donation to the EWM Fund to allow the Working Group to continue to manage the identification, monitoring and controlling the spread of EWM in our lakes on behalf of all property owners. Donate through the DSLPOA website’s EWM Donate link.
  • Inform yourself about the work we’ve been doing for more than 5 years to understand and manage this invasive aquatic plant using the DSLPOA website Eurasian Watermilfoil dropdown menu
  • Join the volunteer team by emailing dslpoavolunteer@gmail.com
  • Ask questions by emailing dslpoaewm@gmail.com

How do you qualify to receive your 8x10 colour drone photograph of your waterfront?

It’s easy - be one of the first 20 property owners to contribute $300 or more to the Drag and Spruce Lakes EWM Fund in 2025.
