Please see the details behind the public notice that was published in the Haliburton County Echo last week. The notice is for a proposed wireless telecommunications tower near intersection of Indian Point Rd and Dardanelles Rd (mistakenly identified as Sandy Cove Rd).

The tower is part of the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s (EORN) Cell Gap Project. The project is a $300 million public-private partnership between the federal and provincial governments and Rogers to provide:
- 99% of the southeastern Ontario area from Ottawa to Haliburton with cellular voice calling services;
- at least 95% of the area with standard-definition level services such as video-app calls, basic app usage and streaming of standard definition video; and
- at least 85% of the area with service levels that can support streaming high-definition video and more data-intensive apps.
The DSLPOA appreciates that cell tower installations can be controversial. As part of the public consultation process, you are invited to comment in writing about the proposed Rogers site before 5pm on November 10th, 2023. All registered property owners and businesses within 341.5m of the proposed tower will receive a notification package.
We will continue to share information on this process as it becomes available and encourage property owners to provide their input directly to the consultation mechanisms as they are identified.
Just like the raised communication’s tower on the north side of Hwy. 118 near the Blair pit created a sight pollution for Spruce Lake cottage owners, Roger’s preferable location on the ridge, west of the intersection of Indian Point Road and Dardanelles Road , will be visible from the north end of Drag Lake and its east shore residents. Rather than finding the cheapest location for this tower, Rogers is financially cabable to afford construction off of Harburn Road, a less obtrusive site.
