Further to our post of July 26, the Dysart Council is proceeding on a path to reverse its position to ban the use of Garlon (a strong herbicide to suppress plant growth) by Hydro One. DSLPOA along with the other lake associations in Dysart have taken the position that the original plan by Dysart to ban its use should be maintained. Our DSLPOA President Rick Wesselman will be presenting at the Dysart Council meeting (August 27, 9 AM, Council Chambers).

While I philosophically support the ban on this pesticide, in the interest of balance, I would like to hear Hydro One’s rationale for wanting to use it, in spite of all of these caveats., What is the advantage to them, and by extension, the to the taxpayers of Ontario? I don’t believe Hydro One, willingly wants to poison its customers, and damage the environment. What alternatives do they have? Why do they feel they need to take this risk to control vegetation in their corridors? I would like to hear all sides of the debate please. Thank you.
I agree that we need to understand all sides of the discussion. In this case Hydro One wishes to save money by using an herbicide vs having to use brush clearing crews. In my opinion it is not a wise way to save money – poison vs manpower.
